Prop firms that allow news trading

All 20 active futures prop firms on our list let you trade through a news release, some with no restriction at all and some with a blackout window around the big prints.

News trading means opening or holding a position through a scheduled release: CPI, non-farm payrolls, an FOMC decision, an oil inventory or a crop report. In forex prop trading a blackout window around those prints is the norm. In futures it is the exception, which is why this page is about the fine print rather than about who says yes. New to it? Here is what news trading is.

How we ranked it. Firms that allow it with no conditions come first, then firms that allow it with conditions. Inside each group, cheapest all-in price on the $50K account first, then A to Z. For one account at a time, use the rule checker.

Also on this list, but not ranked because they carry a caution on their page: Alpha Futures.

More on news tradingBackground and the firms worth knowing about, written when the page launched.

All 20 active futures prop firms on our list allow it. Twelve attach no conditions at all: Apex Trader Funding, BluSky Trading Company, Bulenox, DayTraders, E8 Markets, FTMO Futures, Funded Futures Family, FundedNext Futures, IQ Capital, Phidias Prop Firm, Purdia Capital and Tradeify. Eight allow it with a rule attached: Alpha Futures, Funded Futures Network, Legends Trading, Lucid Trading, MyFundedFutures, Take Profit Trader, Topstep and TradeDay.

The conditions come in three shapes. The commonest is a flat window: Alpha Futures, MyFundedFutures and TradeDay want you flat two minutes either side of a Tier-1 release, and TradeDay auto-liquidates rather than asking. The second is plan by plan: Lucid Trading treats red-folder news as a hard breach on LucidDaily while LucidPro, LucidFlex and LucidDirect are unrestricted, and Legends Trading restricts Apprentice Master accounts while Elite accounts trade through. The third is stage by stage: Funded Futures Network leaves the evaluation unrestricted and forfeits the account and all profit for holding through a Tier-1 event once funded. Topstep blacks out nothing, but bans trading your full maximum position size into a scheduled major release.

The news trading rule at each firm

12 of the 20 firms attach no conditions to news trading; the other 8 do, and the rule column is the firm's own wording rather than our summary of it. A firm's policy can differ between the evaluation and the funded account, so the firm's page carries the full text.

    What the firm states
Tier-1 releases (FOMC, CPI, NFP, oil/gas inventories, crop reports) auto-liquidate positions 2 min before and reopen 2 min after; all other news trading is unrestricted.

Prop firms that allow news trading FAQs

Q1

Which prop firms allow news trading?

20 of the 20 active futures prop firms on our list, which is nearly all of them. That is the real answer to the question: in futures, allowing news trading is the norm rather than a feature. What separates the firms is the condition attached, and the table quotes each one.
Q2

Which prop firms have no news trading restrictions?

Twelve of the firms on this page state a yes with nothing attached, and the permission column marks them. The other eight allow it with a rule, usually a flat window around Tier-1 releases or a restriction that applies to one plan or one stage. The table quotes each firm.
Q3

Can you trade news on a funded account?

At most firms here, yes, but the funded stage is where restrictions appear. Funded Futures Network leaves the evaluation unrestricted and bans it once funded, forfeiting the account and all profit. MyFundedFutures restricts it at Sim Funded on some plans while leaving the evaluation open. Read both stages.
Q4

What happens if I break a news trading rule?

It depends on how the firm enforces it. TradeDay auto-liquidates positions two minutes before a Tier-1 release and reopens two minutes after, so the rule is applied for you. Funded Futures Network treats holding through a Tier-1 event once funded as a forfeit of the account and all profit.
Q5

Which news events are restricted?

Tier-1 releases, where a firm restricts anything at all. In the wording on our list that means FOMC decisions, CPI, non-farm payrolls and, at TradeDay, oil and gas inventories and crop reports. Firms usually point at a calendar such as ForexFactory rather than publishing a fixed list of their own.
Q6

Does the news rule change between plans?

At several firms, yes, and it is the reason to read the plan name rather than the firm name. Lucid Trading treats red-folder news as a hard breach on LucidDaily while LucidPro, LucidFlex and LucidDirect are unrestricted. Legends Trading restricts Apprentice accounts and lets Elite accounts trade through.
Q7

Can I hold through a release without opening one?

Sometimes, and the two are treated separately. Alpha Futures lets its Zero, Standard and Direct Qualified accounts hold through news but not execute inside two minutes either side of a release. Where a firm asks you to be flat, holding is barred as well, so read the wording.
Q8

What is news trading?

Opening or holding a futures position through a scheduled economic release, where price can move several points in a second. Prop firms care because the risk lands on them on a simulated funded account. Futures firms mostly allow it; forex and CFD prop firms mostly do not.
