Trading Rules
News Trading
Trading around scheduled economic releases like CPI or FOMC. Many prop firms restrict or ban holding positions through major news events.
In plain English
High-impact releases produce violent, gappy moves that make sim fills unrealistic and firm risk hard to manage, so many firms restrict news trading. Typical rules ban entering new positions within a window around the release, or require being flat through it. Some firms allow news trading fully and market that as a feature.
Violations range from soft warnings to hard breaches, and enforcement is often automated, so read the news policy before an FOMC day, not after.
- A firm requires being flat 2 minutes before and after CPI.
- Holding a long through the release, even a profitable one, can void the day's profit or breach the account.
