MES (Micro E-mini S&P 500)
The micro-sized S&P 500 futures contract, one tenth of ES. $5 per point, $1.25 per tick. The standard risk-control instrument on evaluation accounts.
In plain English
MES gives S&P 500 exposure in $5 per point steps, letting traders fine-tune risk in units ten times smaller than ES. On a fresh evaluation with a tight trailing drawdown, trading MES first is the textbook way to survive variance while a strategy proves out.
Commissions per contract are proportionally heavier on micros, which is the one real cost of the finer sizing. Prop account contract limits typically allow ten micros per allowed mini.
- Risking 10 points on 10 MES is $500, the same exposure as 1 ES, but scalable down to $50 steps.
