CL (Crude Oil Futures)
WTI crude oil futures, ticker CL. $10 per tick (one cent moves), $1,000 per dollar of oil. Fast, news-driven, and a step up in risk from index futures.
In plain English
CL represents 1,000 barrels of West Texas Intermediate crude, ticking in one cent increments worth $10. A one dollar move in oil is $1,000 per contract, and oil routinely moves multiple dollars on inventory reports, OPEC headlines, and geopolitics.
Prop firms allow CL but their risk rules bite hard here: the Wednesday EIA inventory release is a classic daily-loss-limit killer, and many news-trading restrictions name energy releases specifically. The micro contract MCL at one tenth size exists for exactly this reason.
- Long 1 CL from 78.50 to 79.10 earns 60 ticks x $10 = $600.
- The same move against you approaches many accounts' daily loss limit.
