Profitable Day

A trading day that closes with at least a set amount of profit. Firms that count payout days this way only count days you finish in the green by their minimum.

In plain English

When a firm says you need five profitable days before a payout, only days that end with profit at or above its minimum count. A day that finishes up $50 when the minimum is $150 does not count, and neither does a losing day. The count does not reset on a loss; the day simply adds nothing.

This is the strictest of the three ways firms count payout days, because it depends on your results, not the calendar. Two traders on the same account can wait very different lengths of time. On the board, the Speed column adds these days to the days needed to pass, so a plan counted in profitable days is the best case, not a promise.

Worked exampleProfitable Day
  1. An account needs 5 profitable days of $150 or more.
  2. A trader makes $400, $90, $200, loses $120, then makes $160, $300 and $175.
  3. The $90 day and the losing day do not count, so the fifth qualifying day is day seven.
